Help & how it works
How Beyond Their Time works — who can see what, what an invitation does, and the choices you make along the way.
Getting started
What is a Life Page?
One page for one life — the memories, photos, stories and people that belong to it, gathered by the people who were there.
Creating a page: what you need to begin
A name and a main photo. Everything else — dates, a nickname, the story, the people — can be added any time.
Pet pages, and pets on a person's page
A pet can have a page of its own, and a person's pet appears under their Family & friends.
Which languages does Beyond Their Time speak?
Twelve. The language is a setting on your account, and it changes the app's own words — never the memories people wrote.
Light, dark or auto — and why it's per device
Appearance is chosen on each device, not on your account, so your phone can follow the time of day while your desk stays light.
Accessibility
Text size, screen readers, motion and contrast in Beyond Their Time.
Signing in: email, Google or Apple — and connecting more than one
Sign in with an email and password, or with Google or Apple. The same email is one account; other addresses can be connected under Account.
Two-step verification
An optional second step at sign-in: a code from an authenticator app on your phone.
My Life Pages: your dashboard
Every page you belong to, with what's new on each since you last looked. Pinned pages first, then yours, then bookmarks; a word above a card says what kind of page it is.
Pages & privacy
People I invite, or anyone with the link: who can read the page
People I invite means only the people on the page. One switch under that lets anyone with the link read the page — read, not add — and the link can't be guessed.
A QR code for the page: a card, a frame, a plaque
Under the page's ⋯ menu, QR code for the page draws a code that opens the page for anyone who scans it — read, not add. It carries no name and no address, works only while Anyone with the link can read it is on, and a manager can stop it at any time.
Keeping a memory for the people on the page only
A memory can be restricted to the page's members, never promoted beyond the page. The author or a manager sets it.
Reviewing who can see each memory before a page opens up
When you widen a page's privacy, you see the memories first and choose which stay for members only.
"Who will see this": the line above every memory you write
Before you write, the composer names who will see it — the visitors, and the people on the page by name.
Your contributions when a page opens up
If a page you joined is opened to anyone with the link, or made public, one switch keeps everything you added for the page's people only — and only you can change it.
Support access: what the people who run Beyond Their Time can see
We can't open a page that isn't public unless you let us in — for seven days, from Settings. Every time we do is recorded.
Why there are no likes, comments or followers
A Life Page is their story kept together, not a feed. Responses are names, never numbers; contributions wait for the family; nothing is ranked.
Bookmarking a page
Your private way back to a page you don't belong to. No one is told, nothing is counted.
Places and the map: towns, never addresses
A memory's place is a town, a neighbourhood or a named public place — never a street address. Exact coordinates are removed from photos before they're stored.
People & roles
What happens when you invite someone
An invitation is a link for one named person (or a group). Opening it shows them the page; accepting makes them a contributor who can add memories under their own name.
Suggesting someone to invite, as a contributor
A contributor's Invite is a suggestion. The person who looks after the page decides; the guest hears nothing until then.
Owner, trusted person, contributor — who can do what
The owner created the page and can delete it. Trusted people can run it if the owner can't. Contributors add memories; readers read. Only the owner names trusted people.
Readers: on the page, without the pen
Not everyone you invite should be adding memories. A reader sees the page as any member does and can leave a tribute — and that's all. You can change your mind either way, any time.
Trusted people, and the note only they can read
The owner names trusted people — from the page's contributors, or by inviting someone new straight in. They can keep the page going, and read the owner's note about where things are.
Leaving a page
Anyone but the owner can leave a page they belong to. What they added stays in their name; the page's managers hear about it.
Asking to contribute to a page you can read
Someone who knew the person can send the family a note and ask to join. The family decides; nothing reaches the asker until they say yes.
People on this page, and the family & friends list
Members are the people who can see everything and add to it. Family & friends is the record of who was in their life — with or without an account.
Family & friends: relationships, and relationships with a timeframe
Each person in their life has a relationship — and a spouse or partner can have since and until years. Marriages and partings show on the timeline from that.
Linking two pages
Link a page from People in their life: pick one you're on, or paste its link. Both pages then list each other — and linking never gives anyone access.
Together: two pages side by side
A couple is two pages shown beside each other, by mutual consent — never one joint page.
"Is this the same person?" — two names, one entry
"Paul" tagged in a photo and "Paul Gabriele" who joined can end up as two entries. The person says That's me; managers can merge with Same as…
Removing someone from a page
A manager can remove a contributor. What they added stays, in their name, unless you also remove it. Blocking keeps them from coming back.
A page in an organization's care
A funeral home, cemetery or hospice can start a page for a family, keep the service details on it, and hand it over. The family owns the page; the organization is its desk while care lasts, and you can end it any time.
Memories & records
Memory or record? Why some things live under Settings
Memories are plural and personal — anyone on the page adds them. Records are singular facts — life events, occasions, people, the resting place — kept by the page's managers under Settings.
Adding a memory: the story, the photos, the when and where
A title and a story, a photo, or both. Add a date — or just a year, or a decade — a place and a theme. Uploads start as soon as you pick a photo.
Recording a memory: a voice, and what was said
Tell a memory out loud, or add a recording someone kept — a voicemail, a story on tape. Up to ten minutes recorded, fifteen chosen. Whoever can see the memory can listen.
From my photos: many at once, sorted into moments
Pick a stretch of your camera roll; the photos are cut into moments by day and place. New moments are kept to yourself as drafts until you publish them; photos you add to a memory already on the page go in straight away. Up to 100 at a time.
Keeping a memory to yourself until it's ready
Keep to myself for now saves a memory only you can see — not even the page's managers — until you add it to the page. Nothing about it reaches anyone before then.
"I have a photo from that day" — adding to someone else's memory
Under any memory, people on the page add what they remember — a signed note, with photos of their own. The photos stay with the note.
What each photo knows: its own moment and place
A photo keeps the date it was taken and the town it was taken in, separately from the memory's headline date and place.
Scanning old photos
Turn a print into a photo on the page: straightened, cropped, and yours to date.
Naming people in photos
Anyone on the page can name who's in a photo. Names, not accounts — and the person named can always remove a tag of themselves.
"You were named in a memory": what happens when someone tags you
You get a quiet notice on your dashboard. If you manage a page of your own, you can ask the author to add the memory there — they decide.
A memory from someone without an account
"This memory is from someone else" puts their name on it — a grandchild, a neighbour without an account. It reads "From Emma · added by Maria".
Sitting with someone
One question at a time, recorded or written down, each answer its own memory.
A question for everyone
Ask the whole page one question; the answers become memories.
The same memory on another page — a copy, not a mirror
You can add your own memory to another page you belong to. It becomes its own memory there; editing one never changes the other.
Bookmark a memory, or add it to my page?
A bookmark is your private way back to someone else's memory. Adding it to your page asks the author for a copy. One is a reference, the other is a copy.
Sharing one memory by link, and saving the file itself
The author or a manager can make a link to a single memory — its words, photos and recordings, not the page. Anyone who can see a photo can save the original.
The order of the grid: life order, decades, and "roughly when"
Memories sit in the order of the life, not the order they were added. Once a page holds twelve, they fall into decades; pinned memories lead.
Pinned memories and collections
Managers can pin up to three memories to lead the grid, and gather memories into collections — albums, not tags.
Timeline, calendar and map: three views of the same memories
The timeline weaves memories with life events and relationships; the calendar shows them by the day they happened; the map shows one marker per town.
Life events: the chapters of a life
Birth, school, work, moves, milestones — year-granular chapters managers add under Settings. They give the timeline its spine.
Their links: anywhere online that was theirs
Their Facebook, their Instagram, a blog they kept, the choir's website — a row of links under Life at a Glance. Managers add them under Settings.
Search: on a page, and across your pages
On a page, search finds memories, sayings, people and places by words. On your dashboard, one search looks through every page you belong to.
Archiving a memory, or a whole page
Archive puts a memory or a page away without deleting it. Off the page for everyone, kept for the people who look after it, and back exactly as it was with one tap.
Sharing from other apps into Beyond Their Time
On your phone, Beyond Their Time is in every app's share sheet. Share a photo, a video or some words, choose the page, and the memory form opens with them already in it.
Responding
Gestures: ♥ and five more ways to say "I was here"
Love, laugh, moved, hug, candle, wow — one per person per memory, shown as names and sentences, never counts.
Tributes: what a visitor can leave, and why it waits
Anyone who can read a page can leave a tribute — about the person, or about one memory. The family reads every tribute before it appears.
Signing a tribute as…
The name on a tribute is a signature you choose each time — "M.", "a neighbour on Elm Street". The family sees which account it came from.
Who they are, and what they're known for
Members choose words for the person — stubborn, generous, a wicked card player. The same word from several people becomes one chip naming who chose it.
In Their Words: sayings and songs
The things they always said, and the songs that were theirs. Text only, added by any member, reviewed like memories.
Passed down: recipes, traditions, the stories they told
Something of theirs you can do again — cook it, say it, follow it, play it, go there. Seven kinds, each with its own page; any member adds one.
Letters for later
Letters for later: how sealing works
A member writes a letter to someone on the page and seals it. Nobody can read it on the page until it opens — not family, not trusted people, not the page's owner.
When a letter opens, and who can read it then
On a chosen day; when the person it's for says the day has come; or after the writer's time, when the page is marked Remembered. Only the people it's for can read it.
Remembered pages
Occasions: the times and places people need
Services, visitations, celebrations of life, anniversaries, reunions, birthdays — with the address and an add-to-calendar link. A record, kept by managers.
A slideshow for a gathering
The page's photos, one at a time, on a TV or a laptop at a celebration of life, a birthday or a reunion — with each memory's title and when. Someone on the page starts it, and only what anyone with the page's link can see is on the screen.
Resting place, and "In their memory"
Where they rest, and how to find it — shown to the page's people unless you choose otherwise. Plus a few links: where to give, send flowers, or read the notice.
Staying in touch
The bell: what its number counts, and what the dot means
The number is things waiting on you — approvals, requests, invitations, an open letter. The dot is news since you were last here. Neither is a feed.
Push notifications and emails: what we send, and what we never send
On the phone apps, a notification only for something waiting on you. Emails for invitations, an opened letter, a code to sign in. Nothing to make you come back.
Days to remember: birthdays, anniversaries, and a day the page marks
On the day, the page and the bell say so — Nonno would have been 90 today. Managers can mark any dated life event as a day that comes round. A reminder on your phone is up to you.
Your account
Download a copy: the page as a folder you keep
The owner can download everything on a page — a book that opens in any browser, every photo, video and recording as uploaded, and the data behind it. Once a day.
Save as PDF: the Timeline, the Calendar and the Places on paper
Anyone on a page can save its Timeline, Calendar or Places view as a PDF to print or send. Only memories everyone on the page can see.
How we look after your pages
Nightly backups of the database and every photo and video, kept off-platform and encrypted. Six months' notice if the service ever closes. And a reminder to keep your own copy.
Deleting your account: the 90 days, and what happens to your pages
Your account is deleted 90 days after you ask; signing back in before then keeps it. Pages pass to your trusted person or are deleted; your memories on other people's pages are removed.
Deleting a Life Page
The owner can delete a page from Settings → Your page. It removes every memory, photo, video and tribute on it, for everyone. It can't be undone.
What we store, and what we don't do with it
Your name, email and what you add to pages. No selling, no advertising, no training AI on your memories. Analytics are our own counts, never shared.
Sending feedback, and where the replies go
The Feedback button opens a private thread between you and the team. Nobody else sees it; replies land on your bell.
Young people & families
Why accounts are for people 16 and older
One age line, everywhere. We ask your birth month and year once, never store them, and never guess. Younger people take part through a parent.
I'm under 16 — how can I be part of a page?
As a person on the page, with memories added in your name by a parent — or with your own profile under a parent's wing, where you write freely and they approve who you meet.
I typed the wrong year and my account closed
An answer under 16 closes the account at once and it's removed after seven days. A slip is undone by writing to us from the account's email.
Reporting an account you think belongs to a child
Report the account with the reason "belongs to someone under 16". You can do this from inside a page you belong to; only we can settle it.
The dial: Everything, People, Watch
Three positions, per child. People is the default: they write freely on their own page, and anything that reaches another person asks you first.
"Sent to Mom": what an ask is, and how you answer
When a young person does something that would reach another person, it's filed as an ask. They carry on; you see one line on the bell and answer Approve or Not now.
Signing in as a young person, and what "under Mom's wing" means
"A young person?" on the sign-in page takes a sign-in name and passcode. The dashboard says whose wing you're under, and which things will ask first.
Turning 16: choosing an email and password of your own
Supervision ends by itself the month you turn 16. You choose an email and password, your sign-in name stops working, and your parent stays a trusted person until removed.
Safety
Reporting a page, a memory, a tribute or an account
Report goes privately to the people who run Beyond Their Time. If you belong to the page, talk to its managers first — from inside a page we step in only for abuse or something illegal.
An invitation you didn't expect
Under every invitation there's *This wasn't meant for me*. You don't need an account to use it — having the link is enough. The invitation stops working, and the sender hears nothing from us.
Emails from us
Every email we send comes from hello@beyondtheirtime.com, names the page and the person it's about, and links only to beyondtheirtime.com. We never ask for a password, a code or money by email.
Blocking someone
A manager can block a person from a page; anyone can block a person from reaching them directly. Nothing they send arrives, and they aren't told.
Everything a page shares right now, in one place
Settings → Privacy → Access lists every open invitation, shared memory link, support access, Together pairing and blocked person — each with the way to take it back.
Limits, and what "limited" or "suspended" mean
A ceiling on how fast an account can knock on strangers' doors, and two ways we deal with an account that's a problem. Members' own writing is never throttled.
What isn't allowed, in plain words
A Life Page holds real people who didn't ask to be here. No abuse or hate, nothing sexual, nothing illegal, no impersonation, no pages about living people who object.
How to reach us
Feedback from inside the app for anything about pages; hello@beyondtheirtime.com for your account. We reply privately.
